WHAT AND HOW
In this tour, we propose to discover India in a different angle, use dance and city life as a way to meet and exchange. Open your mind to discover how the youth in India enters the 21th century without forgetting its past.
Dance is very much part of the Indian culture, some of them are part of the classic heritage of a certain region, but, recently, many foreign dances have also reached the shores of India and are greatly practiced by the locals (Hip hop, Kizomba, Salsa, African dances, etc). Many Indian traditional dances have also evolved over the years due to foreign and Bollywood influences.
We will start our tour in Mumbai and finish it in Goa, experiencing, in between, 6 dance's workshops with 6 different but yet all amazing teachers. We will also discover the region of Pondicherry (French cuisine and influence) off the beaten track, participate in the famous Holi festival in the amazing historical spot of Hampi, practice yoga, maybe teach children from the school of Vellai Thamarai and why not, a happening.
We will back pack, traveling either by night bus or plane. Accommodations will be simple but neat and will allow us to meet people from all over the world traveling like us. It will also allow us to keep the price quite low given the fact that we will work with professional dancers paid in the principles of sustainable tourism.
WHOM
This travel is open to anybody who loves to dance and will like to discover India in another way.
Given the variety and the quality of workshop, everyone should enjoy it regardless of its level.
Our goal is to assemble a group with dancers & tourists from different origins (Belgium & India of course but we hope people from various other places will join).
Given the budget for the workshop, this tour requires 10 participants minimum to go. We will limit it to 14 participants.
Guides
This tour will be led by two guides:
-
Helen Okoroji: A professional dancers from Nigeria who studied in India and gives workshop in many Indian cities. Beside sharing her amazing knowledge on Afrobeat and Afro Dance, she is the artistic "curator" of this tour;
-
Christophe Depoorter: Founder of Draw-me India travel, he lives between Brussels, Belgium and India. This ex lawyer has been touring the subcontinent for 13 years and is eager to share its passion and knowledge. What he loves most is to build a bridge between travelers (indian & foreigner) and locals by proposing off beaten track tours.
